Parents Information Night will be 6pm Tuesday Aug 27 in the CRHS Cafe
Running shoes - your athlete will need very good quality running shoes to withstand the rigors of high school cross country running. Please consider buying these shoes at a reputable running shoe store like Sound Runner, Fleet Feet, or The Run In. Places like Kohl's, Dick's, and Sports Authority do not usually carry the level of quality shoes that your son/daughter will need. Contact me (Coach Bellemare at [email protected] if you need more information).
CIAC Info - did you know you can access CIAC info on your Smart phone? Go to http://ciacsports.com/site/?page_id=948. View the menu at the top of the page.
Practices - Practice starts at 2:30pm (boys at 2:25pm) each day. That gives your son/daughter almost 30 minutes to get extra help with their teacher when needed. More time is granted as needed since ACADEMICS are the #1 pursuit of our athletes. Your son/daughter will need a note from the teacher if they arrive late at practice. Practice usually concludes by 4:30pm.
Meets - The schedule has information pertaining to dates, places, and times. Most of out meets are on weekdays. We usually get back to the school by 7pm. Most meets are free to attend. A few like the Wickham Invite & state meets charge an entry fee.
You cannot provide transportation to your child or other athletes unless this is pre-approved by the
Athletic Director - 24 hours in advance
Parents taking their child home from a meet MUST provide the coach with a permission note.
Uniforms - Your son/daughter will be issued as many as four articles comprising the uniform: Warm up pants (optional) & jacket (optional), singlet top, and shorts. We record all the uniform article ID numbers that are assigned to the athlete. IT IS YOUR SON/DAUGHTER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN THIS SET THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. The uniforms are collected on well announced days at the end of the season. ALL UNIFORMS MUST BE RETURNED CLEAN AND PLACED IN A BAG WITH THE ATHLETE'S NAME ON THE BAG. Boys uniforms can only be handed in to Coach Bellemare and Girls uniforms can only be handed in to Coach Vigue. Uniforms cannot be handed in to the Main Office or Athletic office. NO EXCEPTIONS.Lost items are charged to you.
How the Varsity Team is determined - For almost all meets the Varsity teams are comprised of the seven fastest runners based on time trials or previous meet results. The remainder of the athletes will be placed in the JV races. During the season the Varsity Team can be altered at the Coach's discretion. Also, the Coach can elect to run less than 7 athletes at the Varsity level. Only the top five athletes on a team can score points toward the team's final placement.
Coginchaug Track Supporters - Go Far-Coginchaug is the booster organization that supports Coginchaug Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track. GF-C is always looking for parent members. Your help is vital to the success of the Track/XC athletic programs. Help is needed at meets and at our various fund raisers. Sandie Dalles is currently the President of GF-C.
Team Dinners - An important part of the Girls & Boys XC social scene are the "Team Dinners". These events are held at a volunteer home usually the night before a meet. The kids are supposed to supply all of the food and drink as follows:
- seniors bring beverages
- juniors bring desserts
- sophomores bring salads or bread
- freshmen bring main dishes
